The Science Fair was a huge success, mainly because of the time and dedication from each student over the course of many weeks. Your enthusiasm, excitement, and knowledge were evident during our evening exhibition for parents, family, and friends, as well as our exhibition for our primary and intermediate grade students. I have never been so proud of my students as I was during the Science Fair. I had so many compliments on how articulate and knowledgeable you were about your report, your creativity, the variety of reports on display, the excitement you displayed, and how the fair itself was organized.  Thank you for a job well done. Science - Grade 7
7th grade students have a project due next Tuesday. The students have to design a 3-D model of either a plant or an animal cell. They can use whatever materials they have around the house to represent the different organelles. They are not allowed to use any material that will rot, since these projects will be in the classroom for a few days. Each organelle should be labeled with its name and function.
Science - Grade 8
8th grade students are calculating the density of 6 different substances (maple syrup, corn syrup, hand soap, dish soap, grenadine, and colored water). Once they finish their calculations, they will carefully pour each substance into a graduated cylinder, with the most dense on the bottom and the least dense on the top. If done correctly, the different layers should not mix and they should be able to see the different colors of each item - like a rainbow - in the cylinder. If the class finishes the lab tomorrow, I will post pictures. I love this lab, I hope they enjoy it also.
Science - Grade 6
6th grade students are reading about the different ocean zones and all the wonderful plants and animals that reside in the ocean. I encourage each student to use their ipad and research the various organisms we have been reading about in class. There are some very beautiful organisms that live deep in the ocean, as well as some that are very scary looking.

Some suggestions are yarn, pasta, cardboard, etc. Be creative! Each student must label the various parts and organelles and tell what the function of each is.
